Mixed Reviews on Miami Draft

Apparently the “draft experts” don’t quite know how to rank the Miami Dolphins 2006 draft. However, they all do agree that Jason Allen was a great selection with as Miami’s first pick.

ESPN's Mel Kiper, who gave the Fins a C, likes defensive back Jason Allen's ''linebacker mentality'' but questions receiver Derek Hagan's consistency and dependability, though ''getting him in the third round wasn't a bad pick.'' Kiper calls receiver Devin Aromashodu a steal in Round 7.

GM Junior's Russ Lande, a former Cleveland Browns scout, gave Miami a B: ''I love Jason Allen. He was the best defensive back in the draft and can be an excellent corner.'' Lande rated Hagan the second-best receiver, behind Chad Jackson, and despite his drops the week of the Senior Bowl, insists Hagan ``had some of the best hands ever to come out of the Pac-10.''

And of Texas defensive tackle Rodrique Wright, Lande said: ``If someone can motivate him, he's a first-round pick [in talent]. Nick Saban could turn this guy into a Pro Bowler.''

Next Level Scouting's John Murphy gave the Dolphins a B-, noting they got great value in Wright in Round 7, but ''you could see Hagan being a guy who doesn't live up to expectations, like Derrius Thompson.''
