Defense Shines in First Sooner Scrimmage

The Sooners had their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday and the defense was dominant. The offense scored only twice, a three-yard run by RB Allen Patrick and a five-yard scramble by QB Joey Halzle, and the linebacking corps showed that it could be just as strong, if not stronger, than last season. Strong side LB Ryan Reynolds topped the defense with five tackles and one interception. Weak side LB Rufus Alexander also have five tackles.

In all head coach Bob Stoops seemed to be pleased with the effort.
“It was only our second day in pads, so it was about what you would expect,” Stoops said. “We’re a little rusty, but I like the effort and attitude. We’re developing a lot of depth with a lot of young guys getting reps.”

Stoops was also pleased with the defense’s performance.

“We’re much farther along than a year ago,” he said. “There are just a lot fewer mistakes.”
