TCU Kicker Shot to Death

from the AP

TCU freshman kicker Kasey Davis was shot to death early Tuesday, his body found in his car by police in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

The 20-year-old player had a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Police arrested a suspect near the apartment minutes after getting a description from witnesses. Jeffrey Clay Lasiter had a rifle in the front seat of his car when he was pulled over.

The 40-year-old Lasiter was charged with murder and is in the Montgomery County Jail. Police are unsure of a motive.

Davis attended high school in this Houston suburb. Police said he apparently was visiting friends at the complex.

Davis, a redshirt player and a walk-on, played in two games this season — against Oklahoma and Colorado State, both as a kickoff specialist.

"Kasey was a team player and had a great future at TCU," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "He will be greatly missed. Our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time."
