Blog Poll Ballot 10-6-08: Bama Loses Some Respect

Kentucky may have come in under the radar but they were only a fumble away from beating Alabama on Saturday. For that reason I dropped Bama two spots this week because in my mind you have to beat unranked opponents by double digits at home if you want to be considered as a top 5 team.

Oklahoma, LSU, Penn State and Georgia all stay put this week with everyone else on the move. We said goodbye to Fresno State (21) and Connecticut (25) and say hello to Northwestern (24) and Ball State (25).

Teams Moving Down

Alabama – Bama fans are going to hate me for this but the Tide’s offense was outscored 14-10 by Kentucky.

Kansas – The Jayhawks are examples of how tough life can be on the road in the Big 12, surviving Iowa State 35-33.

South Florida – With Connecticut’s loss to North Carolina and South Florida’s loss to Pittsburgh the Big East no longer has an undefeated team or a BCS championship contender.

Auburn – The Tigers have two losses both to ranked teams and now have a four game stretch to regroup before facing Georgia on November 15th.

Wisconsin – Back-to-back losses have the Badgers on the brink of dropping off my ballot.

Teams Moving Up

Missouri – It wasn’t the Nebraska of old but the Tigers thrashed the Huskers 52-17.

Texas – The Longhorns did on the road what Alabama failed to do at home. They looked impressive!

Texas Tech – The Red Raiders finally unleashed their offense in their 58-28 destruction of Kansas State.

BYU – A 34-14 win at Utah State keeps the BCS Busters alive.

USC – A slow start had many wondering if the Trojans weren’t the most over-rated team of all time but a dominating second-half has USC back on top in the Pac-10.

Ohio State – Terrelle Pryor has given the Buckeyes new life and together with a healthy Beanie Wells OSU could once again be the team to beat in the Big 10.

Florida – After dropping a shocker at home the Gators get the job done on the road with a 38-17 win at Arkansas.

Tulsa – I’m wondering why more people aren’t acknowledging Tulsa. All they do is win big every week.

Vanderbilt – I thought this was the week that the Commodores would see their record blemished with a loss, 14-13 over Auburn shows that I was wrong.

Oklahoma State – The Cowboys beat the teams they were supposed to and they looked more than impressive in their 56-28 win over Texas A&M in the conference opener.

Utah – The Utes accomplished something that USC couldn’t. They beat Oregon State.

Boise State – It is time to start putting the Broncos back into the BCS Busters category.

Michigan State – The Spartans are two weeks away from a match-up with Ohio State.

Virginia Tech – The 27-13 win over Western Kentucky was the Hokies’ 5th in a row.
