Texans need to draft Bush and Carroll

Reggie Bush has done it all. The USC all-purpose back has run for touchdowns as well as caught touchdown passes and return punts and a kick-off for touchdowns, he has even thrown for a touchdown in a career that has racked up over 3600 all-purpose yards in just three years.

Bush will win the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in New York, sorry Texas fans. Vince Young is a remarkable player who has had a great season but Young was right when he said that if the voters are just looking for a highlight player than Bush is their man. Bush’s career has been one highlight after another and this season has been no exception. Bush won the coveted trophy three weeks ago and the presentation will be the perfect end to the perfect college career, that and his third consecutive national championship. What else does Bush have to prove?

Pete Carroll is the best coach in college football. In five seasons at USC he has a 54-9 record and two national championships, working on a third. He has built an empire in Southern California and reigns supreme. He recruits the best talent in the most talent rich soil in America. He has won or been a finalist for every major coaching award and has already established his legacy. What else does he have to prove?

Enter the Houston Texans, the worst team in the NFL. The Texans are already on the clock and, “with the first selection in the 2006 NFL draft” will take Reggie Bush, leaving teammate Matt Leinart for the N.Y. Jets.

It just makes sense. The Texans can’t run the football, Reggie Bush can. The Texans don’t have an offensive line, Reggie Bush doesn’t need one. Bush will sell tickets and help the Texans win. He is the answer to all the Texans problems, except one. Houston doesn’t have a coach. Dom Capers has about four weeks left in his tenure and what better man to replace him than the one who recruited and has been coaching Reggie Bush for the past three years?

Sure Carroll’s first stint as an NFL head coach was a wash, 33-31 with 2 trips to the play-offs for the Jets and Patriots, but he is a better gamble than Capers and more importantly he’ll have Reggie Bush. Carroll’s Trojans were just 17-8 before Bush arrived and are 37-1 since.

The Texans would be wise to throw a bunch of money Carroll’s way as they are deciding what kind of money they are going to give Bush for a signing bonus. The Texans could use a man like Carroll and Carroll could use a new challenge.

When the Trojans play the Longhorns in the Rose Bowl, Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush will be playing their last games in USC uniforms, Carroll is losing his cash cows. He would be smart to follow Bush's trail of cash to Houston.
