Big 12 Championship
What do you get when you lead your team to four of the last five conference championship games? You would think a contract extension but the problem is that the Buffs have been blown out the last two seasons in the championship. Colorado lost last season’s championship game 42-3 to Oklahoma and lost 70-3 Saturday to Texas.
This game was never in doubt and never close, Colorado should be embarrassed because they have embarrassed the Big 12.
As for the Longhorns they are beaming with confidence heading towards the Rose Bowl to play USC.
"USC has probably the second-best offense, compared to our offense, in the nation," safety Michael Huff said. "It will be a great matchup for us. We just have to line up and play Texas defense, and we'll be fine."
Be careful what you wish for.
SEC Championship
I wasn’t surprised that Georgia won the SEC championship. I was surprised that they won 34-14. I really expected this to be a closer game but LSU didn’t seem to realize that you actually have to win this game to become conference champion.
The Bulldogs have to wonder what would have been if Shockley had been healthy all season. The Georgia QB only completed only 6 of 12 passes for 112 yards, but two of his six completions were touchdowns. He added a running score and was awarded the MVP.
"Guys like D.J. make this coaching profession worthwhile," Georgia's Mark Richt said.
ACC Championship
You can’t have championship weekend without an upset. Bobby Bowden has temporarily quieted the critics with the Seminoles 27-22 upset of Virginia Tech.
Florida State exploded for 24 third quarter points then held off a 19 point Hokie rally in the fourth quarter.
Pac 10 Championship
Okay the Pac 10 doesn’t have a championship game but when your conference includes USC and nine step brothers you really don’t one.
What does the rest of the nation think of the Pac 10? Oregon finished 10-1, #6 in the AP poll and #5 in the final BCS rankings and earned a trip to the Holiday Bowl. Totally snubbed by the BCS!
Conference USA Championship
I have to mention the Tulsa Golden Hurricane bringing home the Conference USA championship to the state of Oklahoma.
Paul Smith completed 13 of 20 passes for 205 yards and two scores for Tulsa, which held UCF to 55 yards in the second half. Uril Parrish had 100 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Hurricane, and Tarrion Adams finished with 81 rushing yards in Tulsa’s 44-27 win over Central Florida.
Tulsa's Garrett Mills had eight catches for 152 yards -- giving him 1,183 for the year, a new NCAA record for most receiving yards by a tight ends in a season.
