It’s Official

After months of talk, speculation and anticipation the college football season officially began Thursday night. Here are a few good and not so good surprises from the first night of action.

Good - Freshman Keegan Herring rushed for 134 yards on 12 carries in the most prolific debut by a running back in Arizona State history and the 20th-ranked Sun Devils beat Temple 63-16 in Thursday night's season opener.

Good – Minnesota’s Laurence Maroney rushed for a career-high 203 yards and two long touchdown runs of 63 and 73 yards against Tulsa. Maroney had 159 yards on his first eight carries.

Good - Kellen Clemens threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns, and had a 43-yard scramble that set up the go-ahead score in Oregon's 38-24 victory over Houston.

Not so Good -South Carolina had as many fumbles as touchdowns and the Gamecocks had to rely heavily on their defense to stop the team with the nations longest losing streak. South Carolina did win their season opener over Central Florida, but the Ol’ Ball Coach proved his team still has a long way to go.

Not so Good – Washington State gave up 26 points to the Idaho Vandals! The Cougars did win 38-26, but the Vandals are coming off a three win season and the Cougars pasted them last season 49-8.

Enjoy the football weekend. See you Monday!
