Blog Poll Round Table Number Two

It’s time for the second college football roundtable. This week it’s hosted by The Ciskie Blog. Here are the questions and my answers. Feel free to ad yours in the comments.

1. What team best met your overall expectations of them in their opener?

West Virginia. I have been on the Mountaineers bandwagon since the beginning of last season and they didn’t disappoint on Saturday either with a 42-10 win over Marshall.

The team speed for West Virginia is ridiculous and Pat White is going to be a star.

2. What team jumped off the map and surprised you the most? (Bonus points to anyone who can make an argument for someone besides Tennessee.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been really unimpressive in recent season openers but looked surprisingly good last weekend. They’ll be humbled by USC in just over a week but until then we’ll have to put up with them.

3. What team best moved themselves into a position to surprisingly contend for a national title?

Everyone is going to say Tennessee here but I’m going with another SEC team the LSU Tigers. Sure they opened the season with a softie but who that doesn’t stop angelic praises being sung for Texas.

JaMarcus Russell was very efficient (76.5% completions) and effective (3 touchdowns) and the defense was dominant allowing only 171 yards. The SEC is a tough conference but I’m convinced the Tigers have the talent to run the table. I just don’t know if they have the coaching.
