Sooners top UTA

The OU baseball team trailed UT-Arlington 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday night but Kevin Smith would triple and bring in two runs to put OU in striking distance. Those two runs would set up the heroics of Jackson Williams who would come in to catch the ninth inning and in turn knocked in the game winning run. It was the first time this season that the Sooners won when trailing after eight innings.

Kody Kaiser drilled a triple to center field to lead off the ninth inning. The next batter, Ryan Rohlinger, drove in Kaiser on a single down the left field line and he later scored the decisive run on Williams single.

“You really want to get that win in mid-week games because it gives you confidence going into the weekend” said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. “Tonight could have been a crushing blow, but we came back to pull things out.”

OU’s starter,right-hander John Brownell, pitched a career-high six innings in his first start of 2006. He allowed two runs off six hits and struck out four batters.
