BlogPoll Ballot, The Bottom Falls Out

No one in the top 10 was upset by an unranked team last weekend making it an abnormal college football weekend. While the top half of my ballot remained very similar to last week’s the bottom half suffered a shake up.

NBA Tips Off Amid a Myriad of Controversy

Rasheed Wallace says that the NBA is as fake as professional wrestling. One of the league’s most high profile stars wants to be traded. The refs are gambling but not necessarily in trouble. Oklahoma City and Seattle are in a legal battle for one of the worst teams in the league. And those are the NBA headlines before the regular season even started Tuesday night.

Great Deals on Disney World Tickets

Almost everyone would like to vacation in Orlando, Florida and visit the theme parks. However, tickets to Disney World, Universal Studios, Typhoon Lagoon and the many other parks and attractions don’t come cheap. Meaning that not everyone who wants to go gets to, unless you have a discount ticket source like orlandofuntickets.com.

Find discounted prices for Disney World Tickets and just about every other Orlando attraction that you would want to visit. Orlandofuntickets.com offers savings on more than just the four Disney theme parks and attractions. I already mentioned Universal Studios but you’ll also want to check into the many water parks, dinner shows, Sea World, and the Kennedy Space Center.

Tony Romo is Dallas' New $67 Million Man

Tony Romo has signed a $67 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys that will keep him as the signal caller of America’s team for another six years.

"It's a great feeling you have when the organization and the people stand behind you, and you can be the quarterback for a long, long time," Romo said. "It's a neat feeling that, `You're our guy, we like you.' ... It makes you feel good as a person and a player."

Boston Red Sox Sweeeeep!

The 2007 baseball season has come to an end with a World Series sweep of the Boston Red Sox over the Colorado Rockies. I think it all came down to the game one spanking the Red Sox gave the Rockies. Coming into the series Colorado had so much momentum but it was all taken away in that 13-1 loss.

Lots of credit goes out to Matt Holliday who should be the NL MVP because his play got the Rockies to the fall classic but in the end they were just outmanned by the superior Red Sox.

Congrats Boston fans!

All You Need to Know About Mortgages

The housing market is still right for purchasing a new home with interest rates still on the low side but finding the right mortgage company is just as important as finding the right house. You dream home experience could be ruined if you feel as if you are lost in the shuffle and come away confused.

Mortgages can be confusing and at many times very frustrating. What you need is to find a company that explains clearly the different types of mortgages, provides a guide to help you through your experience and makes the application process easy. Money Magic gives you the benefit of having an independent financial advisor as opposed to the salesman you get through other firms.

NFL Week 8 Rundown

The 2007-08 National Football League season reaches the halfway point this week, well almost. The league is sacrificing the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants to the beckoning calls from across the pond while the Pats and the Colts try to remain unblemished before they face off next week. Here are the headlines that highlight this weekend’s games.

Game Threads

Thursday night is a busy sports night! We've got game two of the World Series in Major League Baseball and #2 Boston College playing at #8 Virginia Tech. No doubt my picture in picture feature will be getting a work out tonight. Watch one or watch both just make sure you stop by the forum to chat with us about it.

Sales Training in Plumbing

The are many Sales Training opportunities out there but deciphering between the gimmicks and frauds and the real opportunities for money making advancement can confusing and tiring. What you want to do is discover opportunities to work for yourself and capitalize on the income earned from your hard labor.

Here’s something to consider. As long as people have running water they will also have the need for a plumber. Plumbing training courses are always available and allow you the opportunity to both work for yourself and make a living doing something that you truly enjoy.

Sites like the one above provide you the information on the type of training you may need and also forwards your information on to those who do the training.

Rocked!

The Colorado Rockies may be out of their league. They’ve coasted through the playoffs on power hitting and dominant pitching. Wednesday night in Boston they failed to produce either. While the Red Sox bombarded Colorado with 13 runs on 17 hits the Rockies could only muster 1 run on 6 hits.

World Series Game 1 Thread

The rain is falling in Boston and the Red Sox flooded home plate with three runs in the first inning. The Colorado Rockies are no stranger to inclement weather and definitely have the firepower to answer but they’ll have to get through Josh Beckett to make that happen. If you’re watching the World Series then come on by the forum and talk about it with us.

Clean Up the Garage

Garages can be very messy places. We hardly ever have any guest in them and have a tendency to put everything that doesn’t belong in the house out there. These two things allow for our garages to build up junk over a period of years making it impossible to find things when needed.

There are some simple storage solutions out there that could allow you to organize your garage just as you would any other room in your house.

Won, and Done

There hasn’t been a better college football season since the inception of the BCS! Every weekend some of the nation’s top ranked teams are going down leaving room for possibly the greatest underdog story of all time, can Hawaii really win a BCS championship?, and almost guaranteeing that a one loss team will be playing for the title again this season. As for exactly which team, well, that’s why we call it the BCS mess.

Here’s a quick look at the BCS contenders who won and who are done after last weekend.

Dang It, I Missed the Voting Deadline!

Due to an unforeseen illness and the subsequent hospitalization that followed I missed the deadline to turn in my ballot this week. However, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t fill one out though. Had my ballot been turned in on time, and accepted, it would have looked like this.

Yes, that’s right I have Hawaii as the third ranked team in the country. I received some criticism last week for the Rainbow Warriors ranking but I promise I’ll have a good rebuttal just as soon as my medication wears off.
Your Opinion: How would you rank the top 25? Let us know in the comments section below or in the forum.

Not Dead Yet!

I love that scene from Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail where the guy is walking through the village ringing a bell commanding to the people, “Bring out your dead!” Then the guy comes out carrying the old man over his shoulder to put him on the cart when suddenly the old man exclaims, “I’m not dead yet!”

Search Engines, A Bloggers Best Friend?

I don’t know you but I use search engines several times a day. I use them for work, obviously I use them for research but most importantly I use them for blogging. No blogger enjoys being called out for posting something in accurate but it does occur from time to time making accurate and detailed information a premium for us bloggers. That’s what search engines do! They provide the validation to what the bloggers are saying.

Because I blog about a wide variety of sports with so many different athletes to mention and research I practically live on the search engines. In my mind the faster they are the better they are. Getting your information on search engines isn’t the hard part. Getting them to the top, however, is the difficult task. That’s where companies like Digital Third Coast Internet Marketing come into play with search engine optimizing. They are specializing in search engine optimization in Chicago.

The Torre Story

Joe Torre finally got the last word in on New York Yankees boss George Steinbrenner and walked away with his dignity intact. After leading the Yankees to 12 straight post season appearances and four World Championships Torre came under fire this season by not winning the division and bowing out of the playoffs in the first round.

Another Upset in the Works?

Rutgers is more than holding their own against the second ranked South Florida Bulls. The Scarlet Knights are leading South Florida as the third quarter winds down. Should the Bulls fall it would continue the streak of top 5 teams going down. Post your thoughts on that game and everything else in the world of sports in the forum.

BlogPoll Ballot Week 8

No one dropped out on my ballot this week but for the third time in three weeks we have a new #1. While in recent weeks I thought that we had USC, LSU and Oklahoma as legitimate title contenders and then you could draw names for the rest of the top 25 now I think the entire top 25 is a crap shoot. Odds are that Ohio State won’t keep the top spot and then the college football really becomes a mess.

Anyway, here’s how I’m voting this week. Make sure to let me know where you think I’m off and as always you can add your own list either in the comments section or in the forum.

College Football Preview Week 7

Has there ever been a crazier two weeks in college football than weeks 5 and 6 of this season? The AP, USA Today and Harris top 10’s have jumped around more than dice in a game of Yatzee. The great part is that the Madness, usually reserved for NCAA basketball, may not be over yet as there are still some great match-ups and surely more upsets to come. Here’s a quick rundown of what to look for this week.

Game of the Week
How can you look past #11 Missouri at #5 Oklahoma? Well, the people at ABC sure did! While the ESPN GameDay crew are making their way to Norman their partner station choose to broadcast unranked Texas A&M at unranked Texas Tech. Fox Sports Net wrote a quick thank you note to the Disney execs and then picked up the game to which The Donald, duck that is, should have looked someone in the eye and said, “You’re Fired!”

Three Questions about the NLCS

There is no way the National League Championship Series is going to be a sweep like the Division Series’ were! Just one step away from playing for a World Championship how you can not be excited about the NLCS is beyond me. Russ Oates from Purple Row Jim McLennan of AZ Snake Pit fame agreed to answer a few questions about the series and pick the winner.

1. To me it looks like the key matchup in this series is Colorado's hitting vs. Arizona's pitching. Am I right and who has the advantage?

Russ: I think you're underselling the Rockies pitching staff with that assessment. Jeff Francis, while not a true ace and more likely straddling the line between a #2 and a #3 pitcher, can match any performance Webb'll put up. Even if Ubaldo Jimenez and Franklin Morales falter, the Rockies have a middle relief pen (Buchholz, Speier, Affeldt) that can keep them in the game until the bats produce something. If Aaron Cook returns for the LCS, that will provide a huge boost to this staff and Josh Fogg can move into the pen. Fogg is unflappable and coming out of the bullpen wouldn't hurt him at all. Still, the Rockies' bats are what will win this series for them. If the middle of the order (Helton, Atkins, Hawpe) shows up with more force than they did against Philly, things will click. It may be too much to ask Kaz Matsui for another grand slam and Yorvit Torrealba to tie for the team-lead in hits like the past series.

Jim: Well, the key match-up in any series will always be one team's hitting vs. the other's pitching! Perhaps we can narrow that down a bit: Colorado's hitting vs. Brandon Webb. Arizona's ace struggled against the Rockies early on in the season, with an ERA over six in his first five starts facing them. However, his last outing was much better – in part because he walked fewer hitters. If Webb can repeat that level of performance, the Rockies will find Arizona hard to beat – especially as Melvin has the option of pitching Webb in Game Four on short rest, then again in Game Seven on normal rest.

2. You can take one player off of your opponents roster, who do you take?

Russ: Even though the Rockies handled him quite well in his six starts, Brandon Webb dominated the Rockies in his last outing, resulting in the only loss the Rockies have had in the past 18 games. If the Rockies didn't have to face him, the series would be much easier for the team. But then, the Rockies have yet to take the easy route this season.

Jim: Can I just eliminate anyone whose name begins with H? Hawpe...Helton...I think Tulowitzski has a silent H in there too, somewhere? But overall, I'd have to go with Matt Holliday. This season, he has been the horse, without whom the Rockies would have been languishing outside the playoffs - truly the "Most Valuable Player". While his stats are significantly lower outside of Coors Field, he's a monster there, and capable of hurting an opponent a dozen different ways.

3. The Diamondbacks won the division but the Rockies won the season series between the two 10-8. Is there a mental advantage for either team in this series?
Russ: I'd give a slight mental advantage to the Rockies. Both teams just came off sweeps and both are playing in an underdog role of sorts. But the Rockies are winners in 17 of their past 18 games with an iron will to win. The 10-8 season series advantage to the Rockies isn't much of an advantage; it's basically a wash taken by itself. In conjunction with the records the Rockies had against their other NL West opponents, it was the first time the Rockies had a winning record against every NL West opponent.

Jim: Not really. Two-third of those contests were in the first fifty games of the season, and both sides have improved significantly since then. And while the Rockies took the last two games of the year, that was against the Diamondbacks' B-squad, as we had already clinched a playoff spot: you won't see Yusmeiro Petit starting any games this series, that's for sure! The main advantage to the D-backs comes from the home advantage that went with the best record in the National League: they're 50-31 at Chase, while the Rockies are 51-31 at Coors [including the one-game playoff]. With those kinds of records, having an extra game in Phoenix could be crucial.

4. Give us a series prediction.

Russ: Rockies in six and Todd Helton plays the hero.

Jim: Whoever wins the first game will have a crucial advantage the series. I don't think a sweep is in the cards: six or seven games is more likely than four or five. Really, I'm much less confident here than in the Division Series, but think the Diamondbacks still have enough edge to pull this out. Arizona in seven.

Three ALCS Questions for the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are the American League favorites to reach the World Series so we thought we’d take a few minutes to ask Randy Booth from Over the Monster some quick questions about the ALCS.

1. To me it looks like a mismatch on paper in favor of the Red Sox. Tell me why I'm wrong.

You're wrong because of a couple of guys named Sabathia and Carmona. You need two great pitchers to win a 7-game series. The Indians have that. As long as Sabathia and Carmona pitch to their potential and just get a little offense behind them, they can win the series.

2. You can take one player off of your opponents roster, who do you take?

Sabathia. No doubt. He'd be a fantastic left-handed starter to slide into the middle of the rotation.

3. For the Indians to win this series they are going to have to hit both Beckett and Schilling. True or False? Explain.

They're going to have to hit at least one because after 6 games, they would have faced both pitchers twice. The Indians can't just beat up on Dice-K and Wake and win the series. It can't happen that way. Someone has to crack for the Indians to head to the World Series.

4. Give us a series prediction.

Sox in 5 or 6. No more, no less.

NFL Players on the Shelf

The 2007-08 football season ended abruptly this week for a few NFL football players. The impact this will have on various teams in the league and division races is wide spread so let’s take a quick look at it.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart is done for the season with a broken collarbone on his left (throwing arm) shoulder. Hiss loss puts Kurt Warner as the primary quarterback for the Cardinals who had been shuffling between the two.

BlogPoll Ballot #8 - I Have No Idea

Go ahead and criticize my top 25 vote. I dare you! Because if you’re going to then you had better be prepared to put one together that makes sense and I can tell you that at this point of the college football season that is an impossible task. The only thing that we know for sure is that LSU is the best team in the country but stick around because that could change next week.

How much better are the Bayou Bengals than the Cal Bears or Ohio State Buckeyes? Why does Ohio State deserve to be #2 over Cal? How can a person justify putting Hawaii in the top 5 but not South Florida? I DON”T KNOW!!! Remember, I'm the one who tried to make a case for Nebraska being ranked a few weeks ago.
