The Seattle Mariners finished up their series sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night using some ninth inning heroics. Trailing 2-1 in the ninth Raul Ibanez hit a homerun to tie the score and Kenji Johjima tripled to set up the go-ahead run. Yuniesky Betancourt's two-out single drove in pinch-runner Willie Bloomquist to give the Mariners their fifth consecutive victory and 10th in 12 games.
While the Mariners were finishing up the sweep of the Diamondbacks the Texas Rangers were finishing up getting swept by the San Francisco Giants. Seattle is now in sole possession of second place and officially breathing down the necks of the Oakland Athletics, just two games behind.
