There's No Crying In Football

The Dallas Cowboys should be embarrassed about their playoff performance against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon but if you were to listen to Dallas linebacker Keith Brooking its the Vikings who should be ashamed. Brooking says that Minnesota ran the score up on Dallas in their 34-3 divisional playoff win.

"I thought it was totally classless and disrespectful," Brooking said. "This is the NFL, that's not what this is about. I don't think there's a place for that ... I was looking for Childress. I didn't think it was right."

Brett Favre did throw late touchdowns with the game already in hand but before we feel sorry for Mr. Brooking let's remember a few things. First, this is the NFL. It isn't college, high school or junior high. These guys actually get paid to play football and that changes the dynamics of the situation. Don't get mad at the other team when you're the one who failed to do his job, Mr. Brooking. Second, the last I checked it was the Dallas defense's job to stop the Minnesota offense and not the Vikings job to shut themselves down. This is the playoffs and playoff teams are supposed to be the cream of the crop playing at their peak. If you don't like the other team scoring on you then stop them from doing so. Finally, I'm pretty sure that on that last drive the Dallas defense was trying to tackle Brett Favre so why would the not expect Favre to try to complete passes and score.

NFL Commissioner Benches Cowboys Pacman

Stating that an altercation involving Dallas Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones was a continuation of “a disturbing pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL” Roger Goodell has suspended Jones for at least four weeks. Jones was reinstated just six weeks ago following a 17-month suspension for troubles when he was a member of the Tennessee Titans.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refused to take action on the incident proving the theory that the only people who will be upset by this move are the ones who have something on the line when it comes to Pacman. Jones represents a lifestyle that many try to emulate by living with no boundaries or accountability. He represents hope for a depleted Dallas secondary. For those reasons some fans will be up in arms over the decision to suspend him.

Jones also represents everything that is wrong with third, fourth and fifth chances and he may have run out of his nine NFL lives. Commissioner Goodell will determine Pacman’s fate after the Cowboys play at Washington on November 16th. If you want to get mad about this try getting mad a Jerry Jones for signing a guy who had a proven track record of being a thug above all else. No one in the Dallas organization should claim to be surprised by this because it is what Jones has been doing since his college days.

How about this, why not get mad at Pacman? He’s the one who has shown to be selfish and has put himself above the team by going out drinking and fighting.

No Dirt from the Super Bowl
So far there has been no dirt come from the Super Bowl interviews. No trash talking or name calling, nothing but a bunch of respect for the other team. Who do these guys think they are? Where are Jerramy and Joey Porter when you need them?

Singletary is a Legit Candidate for Cowboys
Who knows what Jerry Jones is thinking when it comes to hiring a new head coach but I do know two things for certain. First, there will not be an announcement today introducing a new coach like some media outlets suggest. Secondly, Mike Singletary is a legitimate candidate.

There was speculation that the former Chicago Bears All-Pro was getting the required “minority” interview but simple logic tells you that you don’t meet with a guy for seven hours as a courtesy.

Niners/Raiders to Build Stadium Together?
The San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders are considering building a joint stadium in Santa Clara. 49ers owner John York met with Raiders management about the possibility late in the season.

The Raiders current lease in Oakland expires in four years, near the time the 49ers hope to have their new stadium built.

Coaching Carousel not Over
For a short time last week all the vacant head coaching jobs in the NFL were filled. Then Bill Parcells decided to ride off into the sunset of retirement and he may not be the only one. Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy will spend some time contemplating his future after the Super Bowl. Dungy is 51 now and had stated in the past that he didn’t want to coach past the age of 50. If the Colts win it would provide an opportunity for Dungy to make a grand exit.

What are the Cowboys doing with Jason Garrett?
Jerry Jones is interviewing Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Jason Garrett but for what no one is really sure. The general thought is that he will be offered the offensive coordinator position but there are also rumors that he actually interviewed for the head coaching position. Whatever the reason for the interview a decision needs to be made quickly. The Dolphins have given Garrett a deadline of today for signing his contract extension with them.

Owens Happy

Here’s a shocker. Terrell Owens was happy to see Bill Parcells walk out the door. Owens said in an interview yesterday on ESPN radio that he felt that he was under used in the Cowboys offense and that he and Parcells would go weeks without talking. T.O. led the league in touchdown receptions and possibly could have been more utilized had he not also led the league in dropped passes.

Tony Romo Costs Me First Place in the Play-Offs Picks Contest

I would like to thank Tony Romo for costing me a perfect first round and first place in the standings. Your dropped snap on the field goal attempt was unacceptable! Of course I couldn’t do any better but I’m not the one suiting up, you are! Honorable mention goes to Terry Glenn for the horrible job he did in protecting the ball resulting in a fumble at the worst possible moment on the worst possible place on the field.
